Areas of application
Emulsion polymerization:
Monomers: Vinyl acetate and co-monomers, e.g. VeoVa 10 (vinyl ester of versatic acid),
n-butyl acrylate.
Tylose H has an influence on important quality aspects and properties of synthetic polymer emulsions:
- Viscosity
- Rheological behavior
- Particle size
- Enhances stability against external influences such as shear stress for example during transport, handling, processing
- Reduces sensitiveness against additives such as pigments, fillers, softeners, electrolytes
- Improves stability against changes in temperature (freeze-thaw-stability)
Tylose HA, a new class of protective colloids exclusively from SE Tylose, combines the positive properties of Tylose H with additional excellent properties such as:
- Compared with Tylose H, a reduction of the dosage to less than 50% below normal whilst protection of quality characteristics is possible
- Extremely low amounts of coagulum
- High freeze-thaw-stability
- Higher grafting efficiency
- Reduced water absorption and thus improved durability of the synthetic film
- Reduced dosage of non-ionic emulsifiers possible
Suspension polymerization:
Monomers: Styrene – production of expanded polystyrene (EPS)
Tylose H / Tylose HA with a low viscosity level are suitable to influence the particle size and/or particle size distribution. The following products are recommended:
Tylose H 10 YG4, Tylose H 20 YG4 and Tylose HA 40 YP2.
- Influence on the particle size: the lower the viscosity level of Tylose®, the coarser the particle
- Influence on the particle size distribution: the amount of Tylose in proportion to styrene determines the shifting towards finer and coarser particles.
