Packaging
Tylose® is packed in multi-walled paper bags with a polyethylene liner to protect it from moisture. Depending on the grade of Tylose, net contents of a bag are 15, 20 or 25 kg. Tylose is supplied chiefly on shrink-wrapped industrial non returnable pallets (1000 x 1200 mm). The pack units amount to 600, 800 or 1000 kg depending on the grade. On request Tylose is also supplied in 1 or 1.5 m³ flexible bulk containers (big bags).
Storage/storage stability
When stored in closed containers or in its original packaging in a dry place at room temperature, Tylose can be kept for a prolonged period. In case of high-viscosity grades, a slow loss of viscosity can be measured after lengthy storage (> 1 year). Tylose absorbs water from moist air. Once opened, containers need to be resealed and kept tightly closed.
Safety notes
Like all fine-particle organic substances, cellulose ethers constitute a dust explosion hazard. Dust formation and deposits must be kept to a minimum so that no ignitable dust / air mixtures can form. Ignition sources such as naked flames, hot surfaces, sparks and static electricity should be avoided.
Tylose starts to decompose at about 200 °C. Its ignition temperature is > 360 °C. Tylose burns easily and the fire may spread.
In the event of fire, suitable extinguishing agents are: water spray and foam. A powerful jet of water should not be used because this can cause the product to detonate and be dispersed into small seats of fire. Spilt Tylose should be swept up dry, because cellulose ethers and water form a slippery surface.
Tylose should be taken to an authorised landfill site for disposal. Details of toxicology and ecology of Tylose grades are given in the safety data sheets, which are available on request. Tylose grades are not dangerous substances as defined in the German regulations on dangerous substances of October 26, 1993 in the version dated October 9, 1996 and therefore do not require a hazard warning label.
